5 is for change. And so I change - I change what I do and how I do it.
I didn’t decide that; that would be a bad idea for bad branding.
Tutors were concerned, friends confused.
And I’m the same - and not - because I keep changing.
Here you’ll find all sorts of things. Figurative and abstract, finalised and in process.
Themes can vary - from serenity and wonder, to melancholy, then spirituality, the mundane, the daydream…
Maybe I’m just trying to make some kind of sense of it all, because I can’t pick or isolate one thing or another, or many.
I don’t think it’s fair to pick. So I go with it all, as all emerge in front of me.
Looking at the everyday as my source of information, I capture my reactions to it, and record all these things to replay them in the form of memory or interpretation.
Materials are the big one here. Discovered by accident, then purposely adapted - they are the result of an aversion to the mainstream contemporary lifestyle: rush, consume, don’t ask the origin.
The use of natural elements such as soil, sand, clay, grass, leaves, berries, rust, ash, etc., directly on paper becomes a statement and a subject in itself.
The process of rubbing becomes as important as creating the image - it takes time, and it can't be missed, as it is seasonal. And the rubbings themselves being a ground for the image has some sort of metaphor that I’m still looking for the right words for, to not corrupt it.
